On Monday our Dental Technician Katarina attended training with Mr Jurgen Seger, the Head of International Dental Education (ICDE Schaan, Ivoclar Vivadent) to refresh her skills in CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) – One of the fastest growing areas in Dentistry. With the recent changes and growth in digital Dentistry, it is important to attend regular training sessions to ensure we are up-to-date with the latest technology and treatments.

What is digital dentistry and CAD/CAM?

CAD/CAM is an acronym for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing. Dental CAD/CAM technology allows the practitioner/dental technician to design restorations on a computer screen. The CAD/CAM computer displays a 3-D image of your prepared tooth or teeth obtained by digitally scanning the preparations using an intra-oral scanner. Alternatively, the 3-D images can be obtained by scanning a traditional model obtained from conventional impressions of the preparations.  As the materials and technology available for CAD/CAM dentistry have improved over the years, so too have the restorations that patients can receive. Today’s CAD/CAM restorations are better-fitting, more durable and more natural looking (multi-coloured and translucent, similar to natural teeth) than previously machined restorations.

Our digital workflow not only means more accurate planning and treatment, it also means high-tech materials and faster turnaround. Experience the digital revolution in dentistry. We are the only dental clinic with in-house industrial CAD/CAM capabilities and we are proud of it. We can generate parts for ANY IMPLANT system, including SAME DAY replacement teeth for All-on-4. We can deliver most implant teeth on the same day, including CNC-milled titanium bars for ultimate strength.

A bridge is a series of crowns made together with a false tooth (a pontic) suspended between the abutment teeth (natural teeth on either side). They are an excellent fixed prosthesis option for replacing one or more missing teeth and can be completed in two appointments.
